How Starry Nevada handles your visit

This page is maintained by the Starry Nevada team to answer common security and privacy questions about the site. It describes the controls in place today and is not an independent certification or audit.

What this site does

Starry Nevada is a public, read-only interactive map of Nevada ghost towns. Tap a marker to see history, a Bortle dark-sky estimate, and links to driving directions in Google Maps.

Accounts & authentication

There are no user accounts. No sign-up, sign-in, or password is required to use any feature of the site.

Data we collect

Third-party services

When you tap a "Directions" link, you are sent to Google Maps, where their respective policies apply.

Google Maps
Used for directions links. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Wikimedia Commons
No longer used. Previously queried for town photographs; removed from the current build.

Hosting & transport security

The site is delivered over HTTPS. All data in transit between your browser and the hosting platform is encrypted. The Starry Nevada team is responsible for the application code and content.

Content accuracy

Historical details, coordinates, and Bortle dark-sky ratings are curated estimates intended for casual exploration. Always confirm road conditions and access rights before traveling to a remote site. Many ghost town locations require high-clearance vehicles and carry real risks in Nevada's desert terrain.
